From the Vine, my bi-weekly column in the Santa Maria Times was published today
September marks my fourth year with the Santa Maria Times and the Lompoc Record, where I cover our fine Central Coast wine scene. And in all honesty, I meet very few local residents who are not fans of Central Coast wines. We all love the perks that come with living amongst many fine wine appellations found within a very short drive from our homes. Particularly the wine events which always feature wine, food, and entertainment. But it was only last year that I first experienced the annual Avocado & Margarita Festival in Morro Bay, and I was truly surprised that my husband Dan and I had missed it for so long.
This year, it’s bigger and better than ever before, providing much more impetus for all of us to join the fun! Not only does it provide many luscious treats for adults. it’s family friendly, too. There is a kid’s area for games and kiddy foods, plus kid-friendly beverages, face painting, and so much more.
In addition to fine foods, margaritas, wines, and brews, there are great bands playing all day long. Last year during the Friday night dinner party, Morro Bay Chef Tim Veatch, who is also an amazing bread artisan, taught the avid onlookers how to make some delicious treats with fresh avocados. We look forward to seeing you there this year–Cheers!
