This week I’m providing the link to my latest column in the Santa Maria Times and the Lompoc Record, published today April 8th, about the Santa Barbara County Vintners Festival on April 21.

Long before I moved to the Central Coast, I was a huge fan of the Santa Barbara Vintners Association which provided us tastings of these awesome local wines. You see, they came to San Francisco annually while I was working at Wine Spectator from 1989 until 1996, and I always looked forward to their industry tastings. Because of their promotional tastings, Dan and I started attending this festival in the early 1990’s. And we don’t mind saying it’s still one of our favorites Central Coast wine festival events.

You can get the details and links to tickets by reading my From the Vine column, simply click on this free link:

This year the Santa Barbara Vintners Association is supporting our local heroes, our first responders who risked their own lives to save local citizens during the devastating fires and floods:

First Responders

The “First Responders Ticket Donation:” In my press release the Vintners Association explained: “It was the image of Lauren Cantin, a 14-year-old girl who was pulled from rubble under her house. It was the image of Coast Village Road covered in mud and debris with a large ‘Road Closed’ sign at its entrance. It was the 8,500 fire personnel on the ground from more than 10 states, the largest mobilization of fire crews to fight any wild fire in California history.”

In sincere thanks to our First Responders, the Vintners Festival is asking local citizens to donate funds and/or buy tickets for the first responders who fought day and night to protect the Santa Barbara community from the fires and the mudslides, literally saving uncountable lives. Their goal is to provide 100 first responders complimentary attendance at this year’s spring festival during this celebration of spring.

Bon appetit and I hope to see you at the Vintners Festival this year!
