My bi-weekly column, From the Vine, in the Santa Maria Times and Lompoc Record, about AronHill Vineyards, was published today, Sunday December 3, 2017
My column featuring AronHill Vineyard is all about one of the few of the many Paso Robles wineries that has a professional chef cooking, almost daily (the tasting room and bistro are closed on Thursdays). Believe it or not, we were as impressed by the food as we were by the wines. If you’re headed to Paso wine country, make AronHill your lunch stop while wine tasting–you won’t regret it!

While it is definitely worth a visit to taste vintner/winemaker Judy Aron’s fine white and red wines, this great stop has much more going for it. When Aron purchased the estate in 1996, she wisely hired a Paso pioneer, viticulturist/winemaker Richard Sauret, who managed her eight-acre vineyard and became her mentor. There’s no doubt about the quality in her vineyards and her wines. Sadly, Sauret passed away in October this year, so Aron is offering a special deal on the wines she dedicated to him on her AronHill Vineyards label.
I would quickly come here again soon for one of her amazing dishes. In particular, for Chef Kara Massey’s excellent cheeseburger, featuring Templeton Hills Beef free range cattle. It was fantastic. While we normally don’t like odd cheeses on a cheeseburger, this one has brie and crispy bacon along with tomato, and arugula, on a delightfully fresh bun. I like to say, I regretted sharing half of it with Dan, I could have devoured the awesome cheeseburger by myself.
We also enjoyed her satisfying charcuterie plate with outstanding cheeses from Fromagerie Sophie in San Luis Obispo, which is great for sharing during the wine tasting, even if you don’t want to have a full meal. Most people chose to dine on the comfortable patio next to the tasting room, surrounded by the glorious vineyards in the Paso zone known as Zin Alley.
The friendly staff make it a fun visit, and you’ll often find Aron pouring wine for her guests in the tasting room/bistro. With all of the great quality and reasonable prices, we’re sure AronHill Vineyards will become a longtime favorite of locals and wine country visitors.
