Cronologie 2012 Verdelho Lodi Silvaspoons Vineyard
This lovely white Portuguese varietal is ideal, whether you want to enjoy it as a sipping wine or at the table. Crisp and refreshing, the zingy lemon and stone fruit flavors make it ideal for pairing with a wide variety of foods, from goat cheese on salads for pizzas to roasted poultry, iced shellfish, or a fruit based salsa atop fish. Made by winemaker Peter Cron, whose day job is at Filipponi Cellars, you can taste it at their SLO tasting room. A very good buy at $18 retail, check it out at FilipponiCellars.com, by the same name on Facebook, or click on the bottle shot.

Baker & Brain 2012 Pinot Noir Central Coast
If you love pinot noir, you can’t help but think when tasting a blend–isn’t this amazing? Truly great winemakers can take pinot noirs grown in very diverse appellations, and make a blend that will blow your mind. That’s exactly what I thought when I tasted this noteworthy pinot made by winemakers Josh Baker and Matt Brain. They explain that it’s, “A blend of fruit from our favorite vineyard sites in Monterey and Santa Barbara counties.” Their description of luscious dark red fruit is exact with its black cherry notes, tangy plums, and subtle herbal notes. It’s a wine I can enjoy on its own and really get into at the dinner table. It’s a great choice for an irresistible grilled steak, roast chicken, pepper-crusted ahi tuna, or grilled local wild salmon. An excellent but limited wine at $30 retail, find it on bakerandbrain.com, only 225 cases made so it won’t last long.

Mirabelle NV (nonvintage) Brut Rose
This amazing pink hued wine is incredibly layered in flavors, and surprisingly rich. Frankly, I find it irresistible on its own and with food. A cuvee of pinot noir and chardonnay, all of it grown in top growing regions including Carneros, Anderson Valley, Sonoma and Marin counties. Despite its richness it’s quite refreshing with its tangy notes of Bing cherries, strawberries, cranberries, and spice. The perfect partner for Sunday brunch, grilled ahi or wild salmon, or pasta primavera. It’s a fine value-priced label from the awesome Schramsberg Vineyards in Napa Valley. It’s quite the steal at Von’s with their 30-percent sale off all wines. And if you have the card, the discounts grow. Currently, it’s still a very good buy at $20.99 when it’s usually $29.99 retail.
